Background
A native of Paris, France, Serge Laureau received his BA in Economics from ISG Business School. Serge went on to hold a number of senior positions in investment banking, primarily as Derivatives specialist on OTC products in Paris and London, at Union Europeenne de CIC, Nationsbank and Bank of America. He has been a proactive trader of Futures and Options since 1999 and joined the Futures Desk at Saxo Bank in November 2005.
Trading style
Serge uses a mix of technical and fundamental analysis to catch both strategic and tactical opportunities to achieve targets in line with market developments. The investment process is systematic and based on trend following, with a strong focus on diversification. The result of this combination of fundamental and technical analysis is a disciplined management process that seeks to optimize the risk/reward profile of his investment ideas.
He primarily trades outright positions, but his preferred strategy is "relative value trading" - more generally known as spread trading. This approach tends not to garner spectacular gains or losses, but rather, regular, steady gains. Spreads create more opportunities to forecast the impact of market-moving events correctly, and capture profit when real economic change occurs.
Frequency
Most trades are Short Term from Intraday to 2/3 days, but a spread position can be held for a few weeks to take full advantage of the spotted economic development. As well as sector diversification, we seek trends on various time horizons, ranging from short to medium term. We prefer to go against general trends when market conditions are appropriate.
