Market Strategist: Tey Tze Ming

Background

Born in Singapore, Tey Tze Ming graduated from the University of Melbourne with a degree in Computer Science. He subsequently completed a Master of Science in Wealth Management from the Singapore Management University and the Swiss Finance Institute in Zurich.

Prior to joining Saxo, Tze Ming worked in a variety of fields, including software development, consulting and banking.

Tze Ming joined Saxo in 2006 and currently covers Asian equities as well as some FX crosses from the Singapore trading desk. He is also the regional product owner for TradeCommander, Saxo's proprietary automated FX trading system.

Trading Style

Tze Ming's approach to trading equities is a top down approach, identifying potential strong/weak sectors and short term trading themes. Within this framework, potential stocks for buying/shorting are then identified.

Entry/exit signals are generated from technical analysis models, including an FX trading algorithm that is in a deployment stage.

Frequency

For FX, trades are usually overnight to a maximum of a week. Occasionally, a good technical setup will also result in some intra-day opportunistic trades.

For equities, the usual holding timeframe is from 3 days to 2 weeks. Clients can expect 2-5 recommendations per week, depending on earnings seasonality as well as volatility.

Products

The key markets for Saxo in Asia are Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore and Tze Ming naturally covers these stock markets. He also screens for Chinese, Indian, Korean and Taiwanese stocks listed as ADRs on the NYSE and occasionally trades these stocks which are otherwise unavailable on the platform.

For FX, his most traded crosses include AUD related crosses, JPY related crosses and various Asian currencies, notably AUDUSD, GBPJPY, USDJPY and USDSGD.
